The Player Entrepreneurship Programme is designed to give current and former professional footballers the knowledge, tools and confidence to build and grow successful businesses.

Combining academic frameworks with real-world insight from industry experts, investors and athlete entrepreneurs, the programme takes participants through a structured journey from idea development to investor-ready business planning and live pitch delivery.

Course Objectives and Target Audience

Objectives

By the end of the programme, participants will have:

  • A clear, structured business plan tailored to their idea

  • A 10-minute pitch deck ready for investors, partners or funders

  • Increased confidence in their entrepreneurial identity

  • Transferable business skills that support employability beyond entrepreneurship

  • The programme also gives players practical tools, templates and frameworks they can use throughout their professional lives.

Session 1 - ENTREPRENEURIAL FOUNDATIONS AND ATHLETE MINDSET
  • Entrepreneurial mindset: translating elite performance behaviours into business success

  • Identifying opportunity: what defines a strong, scalable business idea

  • Problem identification: recognising real-world challenges worth solving

  • Leveraging athlete transferable skills in business environments

  • Early-stage idea development and exploration

Practical Focus:

  • Entrepreneurship case studies from athlete founders
Session 2 -I NDUSTRY EXPLORATION AND ENTREPRENEURIAL BENCHMARKING
 
  • Understanding key sectors: property, FMCG, fashion, hospitality, education, sport, luxury and tourism
  • Benchmarking successful businesses and athlete-led ventures

  • Assessing market entry opportunities and growth potential

  • Entrepreneurs in education and global ventures
Session 3 - VALUE CREATION AND STRATEGIC POSITIONING
  • Designing a compelling value proposition
  • Understanding customer pain points and value creation

  • PESTLE analysis and market context evaluation

  • Building differentiated and competitive solutions

    Practical Focus:

  • Building businesses within the sports sector.

  • Applied Workshop: refining the core problem your business addresses and the solution it provides

Session 4 - BUSINESS MODEL DESIGN & OPERATIONAL STRATEGY (FACE-TO -FACE)
  • Business Model Canvas: translating ideas into structured ventures
  • Defining customers, channels, revenue streams and cost structures

  • Identifying key partners, activities and resources

  • Leveraging AI and digital tools to streamline operations

Session 6 - COMPETITIVE LANDSCAPE AND STRATEGIC ANALYSIS

Session 12 -GOVERNANCE, LEGAL STRUCTURES AND RISK MANAGEMENT
  • Setting up a company, including UK and international considerations
  • Legal structures, compliance and governance

  • Structuring partnerships and mitigating risk

     

 

 

Session 13 - INVESTOR ENGAGEMENT AND PITCH DEVELOPMENT
  • Structuring a compelling investor pitch
  • Understanding what investors look for

  • Communicating vision clearly and confidently

  • Designing a professional pitch deck

 

 

Session 14 - INVESTOR ENGAGEMENT AND PITCH DEVELOPMENT

Business Plan & Investor Pitch Day (Face-to -Face):

  • Finalising a complete, investor-ready business plan

  • Refining financials, strategy and commercial narrative

  • Preparing high-quality investor documentation

In -person pitch experience:

  • Each participant delivers a 15-minute live pitch of their business idea
  • Followed by a structured Q&A with investors, entrepreneurs and industry experts
  • Real-time, actionable feedback on: Investment readiness, Commercial viability, Clarity of proposition and differentiation

Practical Focus:

  • Exposure to a panel of potential investors, including financial institutions, angels and industry leaders

  • Opportunity to build confidence presenting under pressure, replicating real investment environments

  • Peer learning through observation of multiple pitches and approaches

 

 

Session 15 - ADVANCED INVESTMENT AND FOOTBALL INDUSTRY OPPORTUNITIES
  • Investing in football clubs: structures, strategy and ownership models

  • Financial, operational and governance considerations

  • Transitioning from athlete to investor 

Practical Focus:

  • Experiences from athlete-investors and football business leaders
